Abstract
This Regulation redefines the measures necessary to prevent the spread and to control the Mediterranean fruit fly or Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann).
For the purpose of this Regulation, the main host plants of the Mediterranean fruit fly are here listed: Citrus reticulata mandarin, Citrus sinensis sweet orange, Diospyros kaki kaki persimmon, Ficus carica common fig, Prunus armeniaca apricot, Prunus domestica plum, Prunus persica peach, Prunus persica var. nectarina nectarine, Prunus salicina Japanese plum, Pyrus communi pear.
In order to prevent the spread and to suppress the Mediterranean fruit fever in vulnerable areas, holders of plants suitable as host of Mediterranean fruit fly are obliged to: provide hygienic measures for collecting all fodder fruits from the soil and collecting rotten, damaged and other frozen fruits from the host plants of the Mediterranean fruit fever during harvest or at the latest within 24 hours after harvest and disposing of them in a way that will effectively destroy the larvae of Mediterranean fruit fever (harvesting fruits and baking within 24 hours and covering a layer of soil at least 30 centimeters thick or collecting fruit in plastic sacks and keeping it in closed bags for at least 10 days); to allow to phytosanitary inspectors the access to those plants for the purpose of controlling or implementing certain hygiene measures; to enable experts from the Croatian Center for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to access to affected or potentially vulnerable plants for the purpose of monitoring; conduct other prescribed suppression measures throughout the year.
