Abstract
The provisions of this Decree must be applied to: the protection of geographical indications of agricultural products, foodstuffs and spirit drinks (hereafter: products); the control of these products and of the use of geographical indications. This Decree does not apply to wine and other wine products, except for wine vinegar. Article 2 establishes the Hungarian Council for Origin Protection, which is a consultative body of the Ministry of Rural Development and has proposal-making power during any administrative procedure related to geographical indications. The controlling authority is the Central Agricultural Office and its territorial offices. Articles 12 and 13 provide for offences and sanctions (penalties). Article 14 sets forth provisions on reporting obligations of producers to the Office, and of the Office to the Ministry. The Ministry keeps the register of products bearing geographical indication and publishes the list of such products on its website.

The first version of this Decree entered into force on 1 August 2009. The consolidated version entered into force on 1 July 2013.
