Government Regulation (PP) Number 28 of 2011 concerning Management of Nature Reserve Areas and Nature Conservation Areas

This Government Regulation, in order to implement the provisions of Article 16 paragraph (2), Article 17 paragraph (3), Article 29 paragraph (2), Article 31, Article 32, Article 35, and Article 37 of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems, provides for improving the management of nature reserve areas and nature conservation areas, in order to preserve the diversity of plants and animals and prevent species extinction, protect life support systems, and utilise biodiversity sustainably. The Regulation defines and specifies the nature reserve areas and nature conservation areas and the criteria for their definition, increase cooperation in the management of these areas and improves empowerment and community participation. Further matters covered by the Regulation include: inventory and data management concerning these protected areas; preparation of a management plan; protection measures, including: prevention, mitigation, and limitation of damage caused by humans, livestock, nature, invasive species, pests, and diseases; measures for protecting wild animals and wild plant and their habitats; creation of wildlife sanctuaries; utilisation of forest parks.
