Abstract
These Regulations carry into effect in Ireland Community legislation regarding the welfare of animals (including fish, reptiles or amphibians) bred or kept for the production of food, wool, skin or fur or for other farming purposes. The Regulations formulate a general duty imposed on any person having under his or her control any animal to ensure that that animal is not caused unnecessary pain, suffering or injury and is treated in accordance with rules as laid down by these Regulations.
The Regulations specify, among other things, conditions for the keeping of laying hens, calves and pigs and prescribe rules relative to humane slaughtering of animals.
