Abstract
These Regulations give effect to the provisions of European Parliament and Council Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators. They ensure that batteries or accumulators that do not meet requirements of the Directive are not placed on the market or withdrawn from the market. The Regulations promote recycling programs and their control and impose obligations on persons who supply batteries to the Irish market, whether as retailers, importers or manufacturers. An exemption from these obligations is available to persons who participate in a scheme for the collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of waste batteries in an environmentally sound manner operated by an approved body.
