Abstract
The Code consolidates and amends the laws regulating the occupational safety, health and working conditions. It consists of XIV Chapters and 143 Sections. The Code provides for registration of certain establishments, duties of employers and employees, rights of employees. It empowers the Central Government to establish the National Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board and set the standards on occupational safety and health for workplaces. It also requires the employers to ensure welfare facilities, maintain registers, record and file returns. The Code lays down powers and authority of Inspector-cum-Facilitators.
The Code contains special provisions for employment of women, contract labour, migrant workers, audio-visual workers and workers in certain industries. It also specifically provides for safety and facilities to be provided for workers in plantation. It provides for a social security fund for the welfare of the unorganised workers.
