Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to provide prevention, control and eradication of infectious diseases and contagious diseases affecting animals for prevention of outbreak or spreading of such diseases from one state to another and to meet the international obligations of India facilitating import and export of animals and animal products and for matters connected. The Act also establishes the following actions to be taken: mandatory reporting of scheduled diseases for the owner/person in-charge of animal; Segregation of infected animals; Disease Control Areas; Compulsory vaccination of all animals; Identification of Animals; Restriction of Movement of Animals; Issuing vaccination certificate; Quarantine camps and check posts and other animal protecting provisions. The Act further provides for offences and penalties.
