Abstract
This Law, consisting of 15 articles divided in 4 Chapters, establishes the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and outlines its mandate to protect and conserve the environment, as well as protect the residents of Iraq from environmental pollutants and environmental risks to human health. Other duties include the development of environmental policies and programs, as well as the creation and enforcement of environmental standards.
The Law establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Ministry, responsible for the definition, coordination and implementation of policy in environmental matters, wastes management, radioactivity sources monitoring, establishment of natural reserves and circulation of environmental culture and awareness among the population. The Chapters are entitled as follows: Definitions and Objectives (1); The Minister (2); Organizational Structure (3); and General and Final Provisions (4).
