Abstract
The purpose of the present Regulation, issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, is to ensure that substances and residues in animal products are adequately controlled. The Regulation contains 21 articles divided into the following chapters: I. Scope and definitions; II. Surveillance plans for the analysis of residues or substances; III. Internal control and responsibility; IV. Official control measures; V. Measures to be taken in case of violation of rules; VI. Imports from third countries; VII. Final provision. The Regulation contains the following annexes: I.(Category A-Growth control substances and unauthorised substances)(Category B-Veterinary drugs and contaminants); II. Category of residues or substances to be controlled in different animal species and their feed, including drinking water, and animal products; III. Sampling methods; IV. Rules on official sampling methods and official handling of samples; and V. Number of samples and sampling frequency. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority shall annually prepare a plan for the control of residues and contaminants in animal products following the guidelines of this Regulation.
