Abstract
The Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region aims at preventing the deterioration and extinction of rare flora species, taking into particular consideration herbaceous species and shrubs which grow naturally and spontaneously on the regional territory. Therefore, the gathering as well as keeping of the species listed out in article 2 are prohibited. The gathering of species other than those mentioned in article 2, on the other hand, is permitted in compliance with the maximum quantity limits per day fixed under article 3. However, the latter is allowed exclusively for educational, scientific or officinal purposes and upon authorization issued by the Counsel of Local Entities, Forestry and Mountain Development. By way of derogation from articles 3 and 4, the gathering of the edible parts of fresh species listed out in article 6 is permitted (in compliance with the total maximum quantity of 1 kg per day). Part III of the Regional Act lays down provisions regarding the protection of certain minor fauna species, such as ants, anphibians, snails and crayfishes. Part IV regulates inspection and sets out penalties, which include the administrative seizure of plants and animals which have been unlawfully harvested.
