Abstract
This Ordinance on Prevention of Ionizing Radiation Hazards at Works to Decontaminate Soil and Waste Contaminated by Radioactive Materials Resulting from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Related Works is enacted pursuant to the provisions of the Industrial Safety and Health Act (Act No.57, 1972) and the Enforcement Order of Industrial Safety and Health Act (Cabinet Order No. 318, 1972).
The Ordinance covers various aspects related to radiation exposure, including dose limits, measurements, and preventive measures. It specifies that workers engaged in decontamination and related works must not exceed certain radiation exposure limits over specific time periods. Employers are required to monitor and record the radiation doses received by workers, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Employers are instructed to take necessary measures, such as transferring workers to alternative positions or adjusting work procedures, to ensure the wellbeing of affected individuals. Special education and medical examinations are also highlighted in the Ordinance, underscoring the need for ongoing training and health assessments to mitigate the risks associated with radiation exposure.
