Abstract
This Act provides for the better marketing of anything, whether live or dead, produced in the course of agriculture (“agricultural produce”) and the establishment of Marketing Boards for this purpose.
The Minister may, by Order published in the Gazette, establish a Marketing Board for the marketing of specific produce of a specific area. Every Order shall specify the kind of agricultural produce and the area of production, for which the Board is established but Marketing Boards may be established for different kinds of agricultural produce or for agricultural produce produced in different areas. Every Marketing Board shall be constituted in accordance with, and be subject to, the provisions contained in the Schedule to this Act. A Marketing Board may give directions to a producer regarding the method of sowing, planting, cultivation and harvesting of any regulated produce and its collection, movement, drying, storage, processing, packing and marketing and shall have other powers regarding agricultural produce as specified in this Act. The Marketing Board may, by Compulsory Marketing Order, direct that produce be sold through the Board or through an appointed agent.
