Abstract
This Act makes provision with respect to the management of waste and the prevention of pollution by waste in Saint Christopher and Nevis.
The Act continues the Solid Waste Management Corporation and redefines its functions. The Corporation shall, among other things, undertake and complete an inventory and characterization of solid waste generated in Saint Christopher and Nevis and prepare a National Waste Management Strategy. The Corporation shall also designate a list of activities for which the grant of a permission of the planning authority and an environmental impact assessment is required. The Act defines duties and liabilities of waste management licence holders in relation with emergencies and disasters. The Act further, among other things, provides rules relative to waste operations such as storage and handling, importation and dumping and makes provision for enforcement, monitoring and regulation-making powers of the Minister.
