Decree No. 33 of the Minister of Environment validating the Regulation on authorization for change of water level in ponds and lakes and issuance of permits.

The Minister decrees that in the process of issuance of permits for the reduction of water level below minimum allowable level in ponds and lakes must be ensured compliance with the following provisions: (a) permits issued by the Hydrographic Network Service of the Ministry of Environment for waterbodies, except for Kaunas dam and Lake Druksiai; (b) permits issued by the Ministry of Environment for ponds of Kaunas and Druksiai; (c) if it is necessary to lower the water level by more than 0.5 m below minimum allowable level or release water, documentation substantiating the necessity of the proposed actions must be submitted. The manager must inform 6 months in advance water reservoir user of the expected reduction of water level. In order to protect fish stocks in the event of change of water level owners, managers or tenants of surface waterbodies must undertake precautionary measures.
