Abstract
Veterinary and Sanitary Rules for the protection of farm animals establish minimum requirements for protection of animals, which are grown and kept on farms. The provisions of these Veterinary and Sanitary Rules do not apply to: (a) animals living in the wild; (b) animals intended for participation in competitions, exhibitions, cultural or sporting events or activities; (c) experimental or laboratory animals; (d) any invertebrate animals; and (e) animals from farms raised and kept for individual personal consumption. Animal owners take all necessary measures to ensure animal welfare, avoiding causing pain, suffering or unnecessary injury to animals, for whom they care for. Owners of animals in accordance with the experience accumulated in this field and scientific achievements should ensure that the conditions in which animals (except for fishes, reptiles or amphibians) are reared or kept taking into account their species and stage of development, adaptation and domestication, their physiological and ethological needs, comply with the provisions of these Veterinary and Sanitary Rules. Agency for Veterinary Sanitation and Safety of Products of Animal Origin conducts a verification of compliance with the provisions of these Veterinary and Sanitary Rules. The Agency must take the necessary measures to maintain recording of the results of inspections performed. Any intervention that leads to injury to the animal is prohibited.
