Abstract
This Law regulates relations originating from registration, legal protection and use of trademarks and geographic appellations. Geographic appellation shall be the name of the country, region or inhabited locality (geographic area), and also historic name thereof the particular properties of which are determined exclusively or predominantly by natural or ethnographic factors proper to this particular geographic area. The Act consists of six Sections divided into 37 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) registration of trademarks and geographic appellations; (3) use of trademarks and geographic appellations; (4) cessation of legal protection of trademarks and geographic appellations; (5) conclusive provisions; and (6) transitional provisions. Geographic appellations can be registered by one or more legal or natural persons operating in this geographic area. Registration certificate shall be issued for registered trademarks and geographic appellations. Geographic appellation that is false or misleading consumers shall not be registered. The National Register of trademarks and geographic appellations shall contain representation of trademark or mane of geographic appellation, the list of produce and services covered thereby, description of the basic qualities of commodities and other registration data.
