Law No. LP37/2025 “On the classification of cattle, sheep and sheep carcasses and the reporting of market prices of carcasses and live animals”.

This Law establishes the legal and economic bases of the National System for the classification of cattle, swine and sheep carcasses, as well as the relations between state institutions and operators involved in animal breeding and slaughtering. The purpose of this Law is to ensure transparent activity of the parties involved in the breeding and slaughtering of animals, as well as to ensure the objective and correct classification of cattle, swine and sheep carcasses. It shall not be applicable to carcasses obtained in individual households for the purpose of personal consumption. National system for classifying cattle, swine and sheep carcasses shall be intended a set of procedures that includes the activities of classifying cattle, swine and sheep carcasses, their traceability, recording, reporting and receiving carcass prices, as well as the use of equipment and methods for classifying carcasses. The authority responsible for classifying carcasses is the National Food Safety Agency. Carcass classification is mandatory for slaughterhouses authorized by the supervisory and control authority and is carried out by automated and semi-automated methods. When classifying carcasses, slaughterhouses are obliged to: (a) ensure the classification and identification of carcasses and half-carcasses obtained in the slaughterhouse; (b) have a classifier; (c) record prices and submit them to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry price reports; and (d) allow access to the inspector designated by the supervisory and control authority to verify the correctness of the classification of the carcasses.
