Regulation on the monitoring of residues in animals and products of animal origin.

This Regulation prescribes the terms of what is defined as systematic monitoring over the effective presence of residues in animals and products of animal origin, including the necessary conditions and manner for the correct implementation of such measures, official control issues, conditions and manner of taking, temporary keeping/transport and storage of samples taken, and further determines the data/record keeping rules, and procedures to be undertaken in case of presence of a higher (than maximum allowed) quantity of certain residue in live animals and/or their deriving products (food and foodstuff).
This Regulation transposes the rules contained in the following documents: Directive 96/23 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 1996 on the measures for the monitoring of certain substances and their residues in live animals and products of animal origin and Commission Decision No 97/747/EC of 27 October 1997 determining the volume and the frequency of sampling prescribed by Council Directive 96/23/EC.
