Abstract
This Law regulates the management, use, functioning and maintenance of hydro-systems, irrigation systems and drainage systems. Hydro-system is a set of hydro-technical facilities that regulate the regime of water use, which includes one or more dams with accumulations and/or intakes, channels for supplying and/or draining water, including distribution structures, partitions, overflows, culverts, protective embankments, pumping stations, facilities for the protection of reservoirs from being filled with sediment, peripheral and protective channels and associated infrastructure - roads, buildings, and the land under and in the immediate vicinity of the hydro-technical facilities to the extent required for the use and maintenance of the facilities. The objectives of this Law are: - ensuring economical management, use, operation and maintenance of hydro systems, irrigation systems and drainage systems; - definition of the scope of services that are provided to water users by the person performing related water management activity; - establishment of conditions for the normal and successful operation of the provider of water management activity and use of his services by water users, and - establishment of a state-owned joint stock company “AD Water Management of the Republic of Macedonia”. Water management activities are here defined as activities of public interest. AD Water Management uses, maintains and manages the irrigation systems and drainage in general, for the purpose of: - supply of water for irrigation; - water supply to a communal water supply company for human consumption (drinking water and other needs); - water supply for industrial and technological (economic) needs, including electricity production; - arrangement of riverbeds; - drainage of land; - removal of discharged water.

Entry into force notes
This text entered into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette (published on 31 March 2015) and it shall start applying on 1 October 2015.
