Abstract
This publication, as granted by the terms of article 57 (paragraph 2) of the Macedonian Law on veterinary health, determines the contents of the official Programme for the surveillance of avian influenza in poultry and wild birds.
This Programme prescribes the manner and procedure for monitoring the presence of avian influenza that is the subject to emergency planning as well for the purpose of improving the state of health of possible affected animals. This Programme is also in accordance with the provisions contained in 2010/367 Commission Decision of 25 June 2010 on the implementation by Member States of surveillance programmes for avian influenza in poultry and wild birds.
The main purpose of this Programme is to determine the presence of avian influenza virus through: detection of presence or absence of infections of avian influenza from subtypes H5 and H7 in different types of poultry (chickens, turkeys, pearls, pheasants, partridges and quails) and ostriches; detection of the virus NPAI subtype H5 and H7 and VPAI in water birds (ducks, geese and wild ducks to restore wild populations); risk assessment in wild birds in relation to any type of influenza virus which originates from birds and timely detection of VPAI subtype H5N1 in wild birds for the protection of poultry and humans; detection of avian influenza virus in case of increased enlargement of mortality in wild birds, especially in aquatic birds.
