Abstract
The purposes of this Law are to implement the policy of the Government relating to pearl production and marketing, to encourage and supervise the development of pearl production, to protect and conserve the water area of oyster fishing grounds from destruction, and to protect oysters from extinction. The law is composed of 13 Chapters divided in 37 sections.
Chapters III and IV deal with matters related to the granting of permits to carry out oyster fishing, artificial breeding of oyster, oyster rearing, etc. with foreign or local investments. The Managing Director shall issue registration certificates to utilize a vessel as an oyster diving vessel or to work as a pearl culturing technician (Chapters V and VI). The Ministry shall designate oyster fishing grounds with the approval of the Government (Chapter VII). Chapters VIII to X provide for duties and functions of the Myanmar Pearl Enterprise, of the Chief Inspector and of the Inspector. The remaining Chapters contain offences and penalties, and provisions of miscellaneous nature.
