Abstract
These Regulations lay down particular provisions with a view to contributing to the protection and preservation of flora, fauna and natural habitats in Malta. The Regulations are divided into the following Parts: (I) Interpretation; (II) Setting up the National Ecological Network; (III) Protected Areas; (IV) Protection of Species; (V) Introduction and Re-introduction of Species; (VI) Conservation and Sustainable Use; (VII) Access to Genetic Resources; (VIII) Surveillance and Monitoring; (IX) Communications and Research; (X) Permitting and Penalties; (XI) Other provisions.
The National Ecological Network shall comprise: (a) sites designated as special areas of conservation; (b) sites hosting the natural habitat types listed in Schedule I; (c) habitats of the species listed in Schedule II.
