Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment as a body corporate of a public body denominated the Utility Regulatory Authority, which shall carry out such regulatory functions as may be assigned to it under this Act or a relevant utility legislation. The Authority shall principally regulate, control and supervise utility services as specified in Part B of the First Schedule to this Act. For the time being utility services shall be only electricity services in the sense of the Electricity Act, 2004, but the Act foresees the inclusion of wastewater disposal services and services relating to the sourcing, collection, production, treatment, distribution or supply of water for domestic, agricultural, commercial, industrial or other purposes.
