Abstract
The Act provides for the creation of the "Lembaga" a fisheries development authority.
The 26 sections of the Act are divided into 5 Parts: Preliminary (I); Establishment of the Lembaga (II); Powers relating to Enforcement (III); Offences, Penalties and Proceedings (IV); General (V).
This Act establishes the Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM), whose duties encompass: (a) the promotion of fisheries enterprises; (b) credit facilities for fish production; (c) economic and sicial development of Fishermen's Associations; (d) the control of said Associations and their activities. To these ends, the LKIM shall, inter alia, regulate the marketing, storage, processing, etc. of fish and the promotion of fishing industry. The financial management is regulated by articles 6-10.
