Abstract
This Act provides for Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) and appoints a Director General and a Deputy Director General of Quarantine and Inspection. Function of the Director General is to enforce all written laws that are related to ensure that the plants, animals, carcass, fish, agricultural produce, soils, microorganisms and food that are imported into and exported out of Malaysia comply to the health aspect of human, animals, plants, fish and food safety.
The MAQIS will also function to: issue permits, licences and certificates for imports and exports; establish and manage the quarantine stations; participate in the inspection and certification of premises of the exporting country; give feedback and recommendations to agencies or to departments that are related to import and export; and to facilitate and to provide advisory services regarding compliance requirements of import and export to the importer, exporter and to agents who are involved in the import and export of plants, animals, carcass, fish, agricultural produce, soils, microorganisms and food.

An Act to provide for the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services for the purpose of providing integrated services relating to quarantine, inspection and enforcement at the entry points, quarantine stations and quarantine premises and certification for import and export of plants, animals, carcasses, fish, agricultural produce, soils and microorganisms and includes inspection of and enforcement relating to food and for matters connected to it.
