Abstract
This Act makes provision for the management of national parks. For this purpose a National Parks System is established under section 3. The System shall comprise such areas of land and water as may from time to time be specified in the First or Second Schedule as protected areas in accordance with provisions of this Act. A protected area shall have the objectives outlined in section 5. Private land may become part of the system by agreement between the Minister and the owner of the land (sect. 6). A National Parks Commission is established under section 9. Administration of the System is entrusted to the Director of the Department of Parks. Functions of the Director are outlined in section 8. Functions of the Commission are outlined in section 10. For each protected area an area management plan shall be prepared by the Director in accordance with sections 11 to 14. Activities in protected areas shall be consistent with the purpose of the protected area and the management plan (sect. 15). Regulation making powers of the Minister are specified in section 25.
