Abstract
This Law provides rules relating to the safety and hygiene of food to be placed on the market in Jersey. It, among other things, defines offences in connection with preparation and sale of injurious food, provides general protection for purchasers of food and grants powers to the Minister to control food production and sale.
General rules concern composition, hygiene and labelling of food, the registration of food premises and, to a certain extend, the importation of food. Special rules are made for milk, dairies and dairy farms, the examination of local meat and the importation of oysters. Other provisions of this Law concern, among other things, the licensing of means of transport, sampling and analysis and enforcement. The Law also places restrictions on the manufacture and placing on the market of milk products for purposes of preventing the spreading of diseases.
