Abstract
The present Regulation of the Government of Greenland sets comprehensive regulations for the protection and hunting of birds across Greenland’s land and maritime territory. It defines permitted hunting zones and periods for various bird species, imposes hunting quotas depending on whether the hunter holds a commercial or recreational license, and restricts hunting near bird colonies and protected areas. The order bans the use of certain hunting methods and equipment, prohibits the sale and export of protected birds and their products (with limited exceptions), and outlines rules for egg collection, reporting obligations, and local management. It also provides for penalties in case of violations and allows municipalities to enforce stricter protections.
The main change with previous rules was the addition of transitional provisions in §30(3), which allowed continued hunting of Atlantic and polar guillemots from 6 January to 28 February 2017, before the new rules took full effect. Additionally, minor clarifications and reformatting were made.
