Abstract
This Greenland Home Rule regulation on subsidies for establishing sheep farms provides financial support to new or reestablished sheep farmers during the start-up phase, with subsidies granted only once per farm and disbursed over a maximum of three years. Applicants must either establish a new farm or restore one in poor condition, and applications must be endorsed by the Sheep Farmers’ Associations. The government, in consultation with these associations and the Sheep Farming Advisory Service, decides on grants, considering factors such as whether sheep farming will be the applicant’s main occupation, the balance between land, equipment, and livestock, and the orderly progress of farm development. The size and cost-sharing of subsidies are agreed between the municipality and the government, which may suspend or demand repayment of funds if conditions are breached or false information is provided.
