Regulation No. 32 on salmon fishing.

This Regulation of the Government of Greenland sets rules for both commercial and non-commercial salmon fishing within Greenland’s fisheries territory, including special provisions for the Kapisillit River. It requires all salmon fishing to be licensed by Naalakkersuisut, with licenses granted only to applicants who meet conditions such as community ties, ownership of vessels and gear, and compliance with prior reporting obligations. Commercial fishing is limited to hooks and nets with a minimum mesh size of 140 mm, subject to annual quotas set in line with international agreements, and all catches must be reported to Greenland’s Fisheries License Control. Non-commercial fishing is also regulated by license, subject to quotas, and restricted gear use, with compulsory catch and zero-catch reporting. Violations—including fishing outside permitted zones, exceeding quotas, or failing to report—can result in fines, confiscation, or criminal liability.
