Abstract
This regulation of the Government of Greenland establishes rules for the management, protection, and hunting of wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) in Greenland. It sets out definitions, prohibits hunting during calving season, and empowers authorities to designate protected areas. Hunting is regulated through quotas, seasons, and designated areas based on biological advice and local knowledge, with municipalities involved in allocation. Licenses are required and may be distributed by lottery, with conditions applying to both professional and recreational hunters. The regulation details permitted hunting methods (rifles, bows) and ethical requirements, including proper killing, use of edible parts, and reporting obligations. Special provisions apply to trophy hunting, transport restrictions (e.g., no motor vehicles for driving reindeer), and sled dog use. All catches must be reported digitally or via official forms, and violations can lead to fines, confiscation, or other penalties.
