Decree amending the Decree No. 859 of 1998 to prohibit fishing for Norwegian spring-spawning herring in the North-eastern part of the Norwegian Economic Zone.

This Decree amends the Decree to prohibit fishing for Norwegian spring-spawning herring in the North-eastern part of the Norwegian Economic Zone in respect of exemptions from the general prohibition to fish for Norwegian spring herring in a defined area. Vessels that may fish are of a prescribed maximum size and have the right to participate in fishing under Decree No. 1455 of 2016. Larger vessels must seek authorization from the Finnmark Office of the Fisheries Directorate. The Directorate may stop fishing, restrict or expand the time period in which fished is allowed, and close off all or part of the area for fishing. Other exemptions are foreseen for fishing beyond the so-called barrier line.
