Decree No. 1230 of 2010 regulating notification (position, catch and operations) and control and related matters concerning fishing and hunting in the territorial waters of Svalbard.

This Decree provides rules relative to the monitoring of fishing in the territorial waters of Svalbard by Norwegian and foreign fishing vessels. It sets out duties of fishing vessels to report on arrival, position, catch and start and finish of fishing activities. Vessels measuring min. 24 meters in length located in Svalbard's territorial waters must be provided with tracking device on board which data is automatically forwarded to the Directorate of Fisheries at least 1 time per hour. The notification of position should contain the vessel’s unique identification, its geographical and date/time position, and its speed. Art. 9 - Port reporting must be transmitted by vessels no later than four hours prior to entering ports. Vessels shall report to ports on catch received from other vessels no later than 24 hours prior to landing takes place. Art. 10 - Reporting of departure from port must be notified no later than two hours after departure and prior to start of fishing activities. Art. 11 - Vessels shall notify cessation of fishing in territorial waters latest at exiting the area.
