Decree No. 402 of 1998 relative to the production and marking of ecological products.

This Decree of the Department of Agriculture implements Council Regulation (EC) 2092/91 on organic production of agricultural products and indications referring thereto on agricultural products and foodstuffs, pursuant to obligations resulting from the Agreement establishing an European Economic Area of which Norway is a member. Production and marketing of ecological products shall meet the minimum requirements as laid down in the Regulation. The Department of Agriculture may issue additional rules with respect to the production of vegetable and animal products. All producers, packers or processors of ecological products shall be registered in accordance with articles 8, 9 and 10 of the Regulation. The State Agriculture Control Agency shall be the registration authority and be responsible for enforcement. (9 sections)
