Abstract
This Decree prohibits fishing of capelin by Norwegian vessels in the North-East Atlantic in the 1999-2000 season. Exempted from the prohibition is a total allowable catch of 129 800 tons of capelin fished by vessels in possession of a purse seine licence in the fisheries zone of Jan Mayen, the fisheries zone of Greenland north of 64 30' N and the economic zone of Iceland north of 64 30' N of which 53.000 tons may be fished in the economic zone of Iceland. No fishing shall take place in that zone from 15 August to 15 September 1999 and after 15 February 2000. The fishing season opens 20 June 1999 (sect. 2). Vessels wishing to participate in fishing shall notify the landing station in Harstad not later than 14 June 1998 (sect. 3). Also the departure from port shall be notified in advance (sect. 4). Section 6 specifies basic catch quotas in accordance with the "licence capacity" of each vessel. The remaining provisions deal with stopping of fishing by the Director of Fisheries, redistribution of catch quotas, the closing of a fishing ground, dumping of catch and further regulation by the Director of Fisheries.
