Abstract
This Act provides rules to ensure safety of food produced in Nauru or imported into Nauru. It establishes the Food Safety Advisory Board and defines its functions and powers.
Measures to control the safety of food include the registration of food business premises, the training of food handlers and the inspection and analysis of food by inspectors appointed under this Act. The Act also prescribes rules relative to handling, packing and labelling of food and prohibits the placing on the market of adultered food. The Act requires food businesses to observe rules of the Recommended International Code of Practice-General Principles of Food Hygiene of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The Director of Public Health may by Order prohibit the cultivation, taking, harvesting or obtaining of food originating form a specific area and may declare any food to be a prohibited product.
