Abstract
This Act, consisting of 3 Parts and one Schedule, provides that the territorial sea of New Zealand is the area of sea extending to 12 nautical miles from the baseline specified in the Act. It also provides that the area of sea extending from the outer limits of the territorial sea to a distance of 12 nautical miles is the contiguous zone of New Zealand. The area of sea extending from the outer limits of the territorial sea to a distance of 200 nautical miles from the baseline specified in the Act (including the contiguous zone), is the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of New Zealand.

Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force on a date to be appointed by the Governor-general by Order in Council, except for section 29 which shall enter into force on the passing of this Act.
