Abstract
An Act to give effect to provisions of the FAO International Plant Protection Convention. The 11 Sections carry the following titles: Short title , extent and commencement (1); Definitions (2); Power to prohibit or regulate import of certain articles (3); Operation of notification under Section 3 (4); Goods and articles import and transportation of which prohibited not to be carried (5); Penalty (6); Cognizance of offence (7); Idemnity (8); Delegation of powers (9); Power to make rules (10); Repeal (11).
The Federal Government may by notification in the Official Gazette prohibit, restrict or otherwhise regulate the import of any article or class of articles likely to cause infection to any crop or plant, or of any pest generally or any class of pests. The Federal Government may make rules for carrying out the pruposes of this Act. In particular, it may regulate the method and manner of examination and treatment of plants and crops, or make provisions regarding the form of certificate of non-infection, the documents to be produced and the fees to be paid.
