Abstract
This Decree-Law, consisting of 43 articles divided into ten Chapters, implements the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and adapts it to the amendments to EC Regulations. It establishes the necessary measures to be applied within national territory to comply with the following legislation: a) the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) ratified by Decree No. 50/80 of 23 July; b) Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 of 9 December 1996 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein; c) Commission Regulation (EC) No. 865/2006 of 4 May 2006 laying down detailed rules for the implementation of the Regulation. The main administrative authority is responsible for complying with and enforcing CITES through Enforcing Regulations within the national territory to control the following aspects related to trade authorizations to issue, such as: import and export licenses; re-export certificates; European Union certificates provided for in the Regulation; European Union certificates provided for in the Implementing Regulation, etc.
