Decree-Law No. 283/94 approving EEC Council Directive No. 91/493/EEC of 22 July, approving sanitary procedures concerning the production and placing in the market of fish products.

This Decree-Law establishes the duties of the General Direction of Fisheries (DGP) which include coordinating veterinary procedures and controls (number classification, fish treatment establishments, etc.) (art. 3.1). It also establishes the duties of the Institute of Agricultural Product Protection (IPPAA), a national veterinary authority for the hygienic-sanitary sector and for EC representation (art. 3.2).
