Decree-Law No. 366-A/97 on the management of packaging and of waste originated by packaging.

This Decree-Law, composed of 17 articles, introduces in the national legal order EU Directive No. 94/62/CE of 20 December 1994, and defines general principles and norms applicable to the management of packaging and waste originated from packaging, with the view of preventing waste production, recycling the used packages and other forms of waste valorization including its final elimination. The aim is to grating a sound management and, at the same time, a proper protection of the environment. Particular attention is devoted to the management responsibilities, the classification of waste (recyclable, not recyclable, subject to an integrated system) and its marking. Moreover, the Decree-Law institutes a Commission for the support and the Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste. Finally, it rules on applicable sanctions and penalties.
