Abstract
The Energy Strategy of Romania 2025-2035, with a perspective to 2050 is a programmatic document that defines the vision and establishes the fundamental objectives of the energy sector development process. The document also indicates the national, European and global benchmarks that influence and determine policies and decisions in the energy field. The vision of Romania's Energy Strategy is to grow the energy sector in conditions of security, sustainability, economic growth and accessibility. The development of the energy sector is part of the national development process. The energy sector must ensure the uninterrupted physical availability of energy products and services, at an affordable price for consumers.
The goal of the Strategy is to ensure complementarity between: (a) ensuring the affordability of energy prices and economic competitiveness; (b) gradual transition from the use of fossil fuels to renewable and/or low-carbon energy sources, using natural gas as a transitional fuel; (c) developing storage capacities; (d) improving energy efficiency; (e) extending the life of mature oil and gas fields or exploiting new fields in order to diversify energy sources from indigenous production; (f) strengthening energy transport and distribution networks, including through interconnections with surrounding countries; (g) encouraging the growth of domestic consumption under energy efficiency conditions; (h) achieving a competitive and efficient markets, which give the consumer a central role; and (i) making networks more flexible and increasing the number of participants, including prosumers.
The Energy Strategy focuses on a diversified energy sector, which produces energy from renewable and low-carbon sources, through highly energy-efficient processes, ensuring a gradual, fair transition, accessible both physically and financially, providing premises for economic competitiveness. The management of the energy sector must take place within efficient energy markets, which capitalize on the benefits of new technologies and digitalization, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the National Energy Strategy.
