Abstract
This Law regulates the circulation of firearms on the territory of the Russian Federation. It also regards the circulation of ammunitions. The document classifies the types of fireams in three categories: fighting firearms, regulation firearms and firearms for civic use. Regulation firearms are destined for the use by institutions and organizations (except for social ones) for carrying out tasks envisaged by law regarding the protection of environment and environmental resources. Firearms for civic use are destined for personal use by citizens for personal defence, hunting and sport. The circulation of hunting firearms of overall length exceeding 800 millimetres, as well as of the types that permit to disassemble, fold up, shift and pack up them without impeding firing capacity is prohibited. State cadastre of regulation firearms and firearms for civic use is an official compendium containing systematic data regarding firearms and ammunition allowed for the circulation on the territory of the Russian Federation. The citizens of 18 years old and over have the right to purchase a single type of firearm after obtaining licence issued by the local police station. Foreign nationals have the right to purchase firearms in accordance with licence issued by the police departments on the basis of application forwarded by the representation of the country of origin of the purchaser on condition that the firearm be exported within 5 days from the date of purchase.
