The Forestry Act (1979:429).

An Act concerning the utilization of forest land. Forest land is described in section 2 as land suitable for the production of timber or land were the presence of forest is desirable to protect against soil erosion or against lowering of the timber line.
Section 1 outlines the basic principles of the Act: the forest is a national resource; it shall be managed in such a way as to provide a valuable yield and at the same time preserve biodiversity; forest management shall also take into account other public interests. Sections 5 to 9 concern reforestation and the use of forest reproductive material of indigenous or foreign origin. Sections 10 to 21 concerning the felling of trees. Sections 22 to 28 make provision for the declaration of and the management of selected valuable broad-leaved forest. The remaining sections of the Act concern general conservation measures such as the combating of diseases, supervision at local level and reindeer management. Section 38 prescribes offences.
