Abstract
This Decree, implementing articles 1 and 2 of the Nature Reserve Ordinance of 1954, amends the related Decrees of 1966 and 1986 and designates the Central Suriname Nature Reserve, in order to protect the ecosystem and the natural resources of the Republic. The Decree includes boundary coordinates and specific points defining the borders of the nature reserve. The amendments concern the inclusion of the protected areas of the Decrees of 1966 and 1986 within the created Central Suriname Nature Reserve. The Decree protects the property rights existing on lands included within the reserve, and allows exploration activities in the nature reserve for utilising the natural resources, in compliance with the indications of the Minister. The Decree also mentions, in its attached explanatory note, the country's commitment to protect the ecosystem and the natural resources, by aligning with international conventions on biodiversity and climate change.
