Announcement of the Department of Fisheries determining rules and procedures for installing and maintaining a fishing vessel monitoring system for commercial fishing vessels to ensure functionality at all times.

This Announcement of the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries is made pursuant to section 81 of the Fisheries Ordinance, which requires any person wishing to use a commercial fishing vessel of a size prescribed by the Minister to engage in a fishing operations to have installed a fishing vessel monitoring system (VMS) and maintain the functionality thereof at all times in accordance with the rules and procedures prescribed by the Director-General. The licensees of commercial fishing vessels with a gross tonnage of thirty gross tons or more shall install a fishing vessel monitoring system in accordance with the performance standards of the equipment and the functional requirements as prescribed in the Schedule. Reporting shall be according to the form attached to this Announcement. Reporting shall also be done upon entry of the vessel in port.
