Abstract
This Act makes provision for the control of external trade of plants and planting material with a view to controlling plant pests and diseases, and introduces measures to prevent or eradicate such pests and diseases.
The Act provides for the establishment of the Plant Quarantine Committee which shall have the authority to determine the name of plants, plant pests or carriers to be prohibited or restricted materials that shall be controlled, and of the controlled plants; determine the plant quarantine stations and post-entry quarantine stations; etc. No one shall import or bring in transit any plants, prohibited or any restricted material, or germplasms unless otherwise permitted by the Director-General, and they shall be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate. The Director-General shall also have the power to determine plant pests control areas. The Act also contains penal provisions.
Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force ninety days after the date of its publication in the Government Gazette.
Notes
The Plant Diseases and Plant Pests Prevention Act, B.E. 2495 shall be repealed.
