Abstract
This Law specifies establishment, registration and operational principles of the cooperatives that can be established by individuals, public agencies, provincial administrations, municipalities, villages and associations for economic benefits of their members, and especially their vocational and subsistence needs through mutual assistance, solidarity and guarantees.
This Law includes 102 articles and 1 provisional article under nine sections. Amendments were made to this Law in order to: ensure more viable organization of the cooperatives and their upper organizations, and provide economically enhanced structure; ensure more productive activities of the cooperative bodies by developing links between the cooperative and the upper organization; determine the responsible ministries with respect to their establishment, operation and supervision; ensure that cooperatives and the upper organizations are established due to a need emerged; establish a self inspection mechanism by providing inspection-auditing of the cooperatives by their upper organizations, besides government inspection; establish viable vertical organization of cooperatives as the union, central union and Union of Turkish National Cooperatives.
