Abstract
The Act makes provision for the establishment of forest reserves and other measures directed at the conservation of forests. The 33 sections are divided into 9 Parts: Preliminary (I); Creation of Forest Reserves (II); Local Authority Forest Reserves (III); Forestry Dedication Covenants (IV); Protection of Forests and Forest Produce (V); Miscellaneous Offences (VIII); General Provisions (IX); Rules, exemptions and Saving (X); Repeal and Saving (XI).
Any area of unreserved land may be declared by the Minister, by Order published in the Gazette, to be a territorial forest reserve or a local forest reserve (sect. 5). Section 6 specifies requirements which should be met before a reserve can be declared. Sections 7, 8 and 9 provide for old and new rights in relation to land or forest produce in reserve areas. Part IV provides for covenants between the owner of any land with the Chief Conservator with respect the use of land, to growing of trees, or the conservation of water. Part V sets out restrictions and prohibitions within forest reserves.
