Abstract
This Act provides rules for the registration and supervision of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). NGOs, as defined by this Act shall register with the Registrar in the a register of Non-Government Organizations pursuant to the Provisions of this Act. The President of Tanzania shall appoint a Director for Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination, who shall be the Registrar and shall act as a link between the Government and NGOs. The Director shall also advise on NGO policy and ensure proper implementation of this Act. The Act also establishes the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Board, which shall decide in registration and facilitate, coordinate and supervise activities of NGOs. There shall be established an umbrella organization for Non-Governmental Organizations to be known as the National Council for Non-Governmental Organizations. NGOs shall, among other things, respect the culture and traditions of the people and communities in which they operate. NGOs may be community based organization.
